  • First recorded as ΑνθραϪέ in 325 B.C. by Theophrastus.
  • Pliny the Elder recorded this stone in 77 A.D. as Carchedonius Garamanticus or Garamantic Carbuncle.
  • The word Garnet derives from ‘Gernet’ meaning “dark red” and the “Granatus'' meaning grain or seed, like a Pomegranate.
  • Garnet has 6 sub-minerals: Almandine, Pyrope, Spessartine, Andradite, Grossular, and Uvaroite. You can also find Garnet in different colours like Green.
  • In Ancient times, Garnet was prescribed for conditions of the blood. Ancient Asiatic tribes even used small garnets as bullets, thinking they would have a greater impact.
  • Garnet served as a talisman in the Crusades for both Christians and Muslims. It was also said to be one of the 12 stones on the breastplate of the high priest. It has been a scared stone to many religious communities. Greek mythology believed it could heal wounds between romantic partners.
